Missouri beats Allen 4-3 after comeback scare

The Allen Americans tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Missouri Mavericks would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

Missouri took a 4-2 lead during the third period, only to have Allen storm back on a Jamie Schaafsma goal 19:26 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Mavericks got the win behind a great game by Brian Bicek, who had two goals and two assists. Bicek scored the first of his two goals at 11:01 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Missouri. Jeff Pierce provided the assist. Bicek's next tally made the score Missouri with 1:00 left in the third period.

Missouri could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game.

Missouri also got points from Pierce, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Sebastien Thinel, who also finished with one goal and two assists. In addition, Missouri received assists from Jamie VanderVeeken, who had one.

The Americans kept the Mavericks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Mike Clemente made 32 saves on 35 shots. Allen's defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 16 shots between them.

Allen additionally got points from Scotty Howes, who also had one goal and one assist. Tyler Ludwig also scored for Allen. Other players who recorded assists for Allen were Brett Skinner, who had one and Anthony Maiani and Darryl Bootland, who contributed two a piece.

Missouri registered one goal on two power play opportunities. Aaron Dell recorded 24 saves for the Americans. Allen incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
