Allen vanquishes Bloomington in shootout, 5-4 (1-0 SO)

Scotty Howes scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Allen Americans picked up the extra point in a 5-4 (1-0 SO) win over the Bloomington Blaze.

The shootout featured nine attempts between both teams.

Allen came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Americans trailed 4-1 after a goal by Bloomington's Matthew Larke at 3:35 in the second period. Allen knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Jamie Schaafsma at 15:19 in the third period.

Schaafsma was all over the ice for the Americans, as he registered two goals in the win.

Allen put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Blaze to score on any of their three power plays. The Americans' defensemen bolstered Allen's offensive attack, as they bombarded Dan Dunn with 24 shots. By firing 52 shots on goal, the Americans exceeded the 31.1 shots they average per game this year.

Allen also got points from Tyler Ludwig, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Allen also got a goal from Anthony Maiani as well. More assists for Allen came via Jason Deitsch and Darryl Bootland, who each chipped in one and Brett Skinner and Adam Pineault, who contributed two a piece.

Bloomington forced Allen's netminders to work in net, firing 35 shots and forcing 31 saves. Aaron Dell made 26 stops and Steve Silverthorn made five.

The Blaze were led by Nicklas Lindberg, who had one goal and one assist. Lindberg scored 6:57 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Bloomington. Jon Booras assisted on the tally. Bloomington additionally got points from Larke, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Sebastien Trudeau also scored for Bloomington. Other players who recorded assists for Bloomington were Steve Makway, Aaron Dawson, Travis Granbois, and Tyler Gron, who each chipped in one.

The Americans incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Dan Dunn made 47 saves for Bloomington on 51 shots. The Blaze incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
