The Wichita Thunder were firing on all cylinders against Rapid City, and when the final buzzer sounded Thunder emerged with a 6-2 win.

Rapid City's power play was ineffective against Wichita's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Thunder were often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and four majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. Wichita had been averaging 17.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Thunder made Rapid City's goaltenders to work between the pipes, getting 32 shots and forcing 26 saves. Neil Conway made six stops and Tim Boron made 20. Wichita put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Rapid City to score on any of its six power plays. The Thunder surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Wichita has scored at the pace of 3.8 goals per game during the current campaign. The Thunder's defensemen were a huge part of the offense, scoring two goals and taking 13 shots.

Wichita was led by Gregor Hanson, who finished with two goals and one assist. Hanson scored the first of his two goals at 8:05 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Wichita. RG Flath assisted on the tally. Hanson's next tally made the score 4-1 Wichita with 17:14 left in the second period. Flath picked up the assist. Wichita additionally got points from Neil Trimm, who also registered one goal and one assist. Wichita also got a goal from Ryan Flanigan as well. More assists for Wichita came via Matt Summers, who had three and Chad Painchaud, David Inman, and Andrew Martens, who contributed one a piece.

Rapid City racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and four majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game Rapid City had been spending in the box. Rapid City relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Jarrett Konkle, Rusty Masters and Jordan Baker took 13 of the team's 25 shots.

Other players who recorded assists for Rapid City were Jeff Lee, John Snowden, Alex Penner, and Scott Brannon, who each chipped in one.

The Thunder's Kevin Regan stopped 23 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Wichita registered two goals on eight power play opportunities.
