Lukin's big game bests Tulsa in 4-1 Allen win

Jarret Lukin had one goal and two assists to lead the Allen Americans to a 4-1 victory over the Tulsa Oilers.

Lukin beat Dan Bakala with a shot 8:54 into the second period short handed to make the score 2-1 Allen. Allen was on a disadvantage when Brett Skinner went off the ice for holding. Lukin dished an assist on Jamie Schaafsma's goal that made the score 1-1 at 5:08 into the second period. He added another helper on Ryley Grantham's goal that made the score 3-1 Allen at 17:03 into the second period.

The Americans were often in penalty trouble, totaling five minors and two majors for 20 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game Allen had been spending in the box. The Americans stifled Tulsa's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

In addition, Allen received assists from Darryl Bootland, who had one.

The Oilers forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and two majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. Tulsa had been averaging 19.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Oilers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Allen power plays. Tulsa was below its usual level of shot production, taking 19 shots compared to the 25.6 the Oilers average. Tulsa's offense operated below it season average. The Oilers put an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game.

Tulsa was led by Jake Trask, who scored the team's only goal. Trask scored 1:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Tulsa. Matt Register provided the assist.

Aaron Dell made 18 saves for Allen on 19 shots. Bakala rejected 21 shots on goal for the Oilers. Tulsa registered zero goals on four power play opportunities.
