Gendur's big game bests Laredo in 8-2 Rio Grande Valley win

State Farm Arena    Sat, Mar 24, 2012

The Laredo Bucks had trouble finding ways to stop the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, which beat Bucks, 8-2.

Rio Grande Valley put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Laredo to score on any of its three power plays. The Killer Bees outdid their season average for goals scored. Rio Grande Valley averages 3.2 goals per game. The 35 shots that the Killer Bees put on net surpassed Rio Grande Valley's average of 22.8 shots per game this season.

The Killer Bees were helped by Dan Gendur, who had two goals and one assist. Gendur scored the first of his two goals at 1:51 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Rio Grande Valley. Tomas Klempa assisted on the tally. Gendur's next tally made the score 3-0 Rio Grande Valley with 17:35 left in the first period. Zac Pearson picked up the assist. Jason Dixon also scored for Rio Grande Valley. In addition, Rio Grande Valley received assists from Mike Wilson, who had two and Nicolas Rioux, Georgi Petrov, Brandon Campos, Reid Edmondson, Jon Madden, and Scott Balan, who contributed one a piece.

The Bucks racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with five minors and two majors for 20 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 14.0 minutes per game Laredo had been spending in the box. The Bucks stifled Rio Grande Valley's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Laredo put 25 shots on net during the contest, more than the 19.1 it averages per game. The Bucks' offense was helped by the efforts of their defensemen, who managed to put 11 shots on net during the game.

Laredo was led by Joseph Harcharik, who grabbed two goals. Harcharik scored the first of his two goals at 16:17 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Rio Grande Valley. Kyle Mariani assisted on the tally. Harcharik's next tally made the score 7-2 Rio Grande Valley with 9:29 left in the third period. Adam Rivet provided the assist. More assists for Laredo came via Erik Boisvert, who had one.

The Killer Bees' Wylie Rogers stopped 23 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Rio Grande Valley totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 0-for-4 on the power play. The Bucks' starting goalie, Torrie Jung, made 24 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Ryan Rondeau, who stopped three shots.
