Missouri squeaks by Bloomington, 5-3

The Missouri Mavericks and the Bloomington Blaze were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Missouri made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Brandon Smith secured the win for the Mavericks with a goal in the third period.

Missouri was sparked by Smith, who grabbed one goal. Smith scored 4:47 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Missouri. Matt McCready picked up the assist.

The Mavericks stifled Bloomington's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Missouri additionally got points from Ed McGrane, who also had one goal and one assist. Missouri also got a goal from Ryan Jardine as well. Other players who recorded assists for Missouri were David Simoes, who had two and Cole Ruwe and Andrew Courtney, who each chipped in one.

The 35 shots that the Blaze put on net surpassed Bloomington's average of 29.1 shots per game this season.

The Blaze were helped by Kyle Laughlin, who racked up one goal and one assist. Laughlin scored 19:16 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Bloomington also got points from Jon Booras, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Jordy Trottier also scored for Bloomington. In addition, Bloomington received assists from Vladimir Nikiforov and Brandon Richardson, who contributed one a piece.

Charlie Effinger made 32 saves for Missouri on 35 shots. The Mavericks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Brian Mahoney-Wilson rejected 25 shots on goal for Bloomington. The Blaze incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
