Allen survives penalties, beats Wichita, 6-2

Allen's penalty kill was superb, as Allen survived multiple penalties to beat the Wichita Thunder, 6-2.

Allen racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Allen had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. Allen put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wichita to score on any of its six power plays. Allen put 27 shots on net during the contest, more than the 21.3 it averages per game. Allen found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Allen has scored at the pace of 3.2 goals per game during the current campaign.

Allen was helped by Jason Deitsch, who racked up one goal and one assist. Deitsch scored 11:17 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Allen. Brett Clouthier assisted on the tally. Allen also got points from Jeff Martens, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Keith Johnson, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Clouthier, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Allen also got a goal from Brian McMillin as well. In addition, Allen received assists from Mike Berube, Mark Nebus, Nick Layton, and Joshua Hepditch, who each chipped in one and Jake Newton and Erik Adams, who contributed two a piece.

The Thunder's penalty kill was ineffective, and let in three goals to Allen's power play unit. The 37 shots that Wichita put on net surpassed the Thunder's average of 22.3 shots per game this season.

Wichita was helped by Erick Lizon, who racked up one goal. Lizon scored 10:47 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Allen. Alex Bourret picked up the assist. Wichita additionally got points from Bourret, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Wichita were Jarred Mohr and Travis Wight, who each chipped in one.

Rejean Beauchemin made 35 saves for Allen on 37 shots. Bryan Hogan recorded 21 saves for the Thunder. Wichita ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. The Thunder ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bourret was ejected from the game.
