The Evansville IceMen beat the Quad City Mallards, 2-1, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout. A goal 4:55 into the the first period by Mark Cody proved to be the game winner, and powered Evansville to the victory John Ronan picked up the assist.The IceMen were led by goalie Pier-Olivier Pelletier, who finished with 39 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Pelletier will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.93. Evansville's penalty kill excelled, as the IceMen gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays. Evansville stifled Quad City's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The IceMen were helped by Matt Pierce, who tallied one goal. Pierce scored 10:12 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Evansville. Sean OConnor provided the assist. More assists for Evansville came via Mario Boillard, who had one. The Mallards' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Evansville power plays. Quad City did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Mallards put an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game. Quad City forced Evansville goalie Pelletier to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. The Mallards were led by Mickey Lang, who scored the team's only goal. Lang scored 17:03 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Evansville. The IceMen incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. David Brown made 21 saves for Quad City on 23 shots. The Mallards incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
