Allen survives Texas comeback, wins 2-1

NYTEX Brahmas    Sun, Mar 18, 2012

The Texas Brahmas tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but Allen would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 2-1.

Allen made the score 2-0 on a goal by Joshua Hepditch at 3:01 in the second period, and Texas got as close as 2-1 when Sy Nutkevitch scored 4:31 into the third period.

Allen's Rejean Beauchemin was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 27 saves and let only one puck past him. Beauchemin certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.3 entering the contest.

The Allen penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. Allen surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. Allen excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Tyler Ludwig also scored for Allen. Other players who recorded assists for Allen were Jake Newton, who had two and Brian McMillin and Bruce Graham, who contributed one a piece.

The Brahmas racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 14.0 minutes per game Texas had been spending in the box. The Brahmas stifled Allen's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. By firing 28 shots on goal, Texas exceeded the 20.9 shots it averages per game this year. The Brahmas' defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 13 shots between them.

More assists for Texas came via Ross Rouleau and Thomas Galiani, who each chipped in one.

Allen registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. Mark Guggenberger recorded 18 saves for Texas.
