Rapid City squeaks by Evansville, 3-2

Rapid City gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Evansville IceMen.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Jesse Schultz's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Rapid City was led by Schultz, who racked up one goal. Schultz scored on the power play 14:19 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Rapid City. Rapid City had gotten the advantage when Evansville's John Ronan was sent off for cross checking. Konrad Reeder picked up the assist.

Rapid City was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and three majors for 39 minutes in penalty time. Rapid City had been averaging 18.0 minutes in penalties per game. Rapid City excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The 34 shots that Rapid City put on net surpassed Rapid City's average of 26.5 shots per game this season.

Anthony Perdicaro also scored for Rapid City. More assists for Rapid City came via Scott Wray, Dominic DAmour, Les Reaney, Dave Grimson, and Andrew Smale, who contributed one a piece.

The IceMen forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up four minors and four majors for 58 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game Evansville had been spending in the box.

The IceMen were helped by Todd Robinson, who grabbed one goal. Robinson scored 11:42 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Evansville. Luke Stauffacher assisted on the tally. In addition, Evansville received assists from Josh Beaulieu and Matt Pierce, who each chipped in one.

Tim Boron rejected 20 shots on goal for Rapid City. Rapid City registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Evansville's Bryan Gillis stopped 31 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Team's Beaulieu and Steve Makway were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
