The Quad City Mallards tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Wichita Thunder held on for a 4-2 victory.

Wichita took a 4-1 lead during the second period, only to have Quad City storm back on a Jared Brown goal 3:35 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Thunder's penalty kill excelled, as Wichita gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

The Thunder stifled the Mallards' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. By firing 29 shots on goal, Wichita exceeded the 22.4 shots it averages per game this year.

The Thunder were helped by Kevin Young, who registered one goal. Young scored on the power play 3:54 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Wichita. Wichita had taken the advantage when Quad City's Sean Flanagan got sent off for slashing. Alex Bourret provided the assist. Wichita also got a goal from RG Flath as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wichita were Kevin Seibel, Chris Chappell, Jarred Mohr, Thomas Beauregard, and Matt Summers, who contributed one a piece.

The Mallards' offense was clicking better than usual and put 44 shots on goal during the game, better than the 33.6 shots per game they average.

Quad City was helped by Justin Chwedoruk, who finished with one goal. Chwedoruk scored 1:37 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Justin Hofstetter picked up the assist. In addition, Quad City received assists from Bob Preece, Brandon Marino, and John Snowden, who each chipped in one.

The Thunder's Bryan Hogan stopped 42 shots out of the 44 that he faced. Wichita incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. David McKee rejected 25 shots on goal for the Mallards. Quad City incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
