Texas uses shootout to best Laredo, 5-4 (1-0 SO)

Adam Hogg netted the deciding goal for the Texas Brahmas in the shootout as Brahmas prevailed over the Laredo Bucks, 5-4 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed 10 turns to complete the shootout.

Texas came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Brahmas trailed 4-2 after a goal by Laredo's Ryan Sparling at 2:00 in the third period. Texas knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Phil Fox at 10:11 in the third period.

TJ Fox was all over the ice for the Brahmas, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Fox scored the first of his two goals at 6:48 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Laredo. Chad Woollard assisted on the tally. Fox's next tally made the score 3-2 Laredo with 6:18 left in the second period. Andrew Lackner picked up the assist.

Texas bested its season scoring average. This season, the Brahmas average 2.6 goals per contest. Texas' offense was clicking better than usual and put 34 shots on goal during the game, better than the 24.9 shots per game it averages.

In addition, Texas received assists from Brendon Hodge, who had one.

The Bucks stifled the Brahmas' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Laredo's offense was helped by the efforts of its defensemen, who managed to put nine shots on net during the game.

The Bucks were led by A.J. Hau, who grabbed one goal and two assists. Hau scored on the power play 5:19 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Laredo. A high sticking penalty on Hogg had put Laredo on the power play. Matt Boyd assisted on the tally. Rusty Masters also scored for Laredo. More assists for Laredo came via Kyle Mariani, who had one and Adam Rivet, who had two.

Mark Guggenberger recorded 15 saves for Texas. The Brahmas incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Torrie Jung made 29 saves for the Bucks on 33 shots. Laredo incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
