Rapid City outlasts Wichita, 5-3

The game between Rapid City and the Wichita Thunder was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Rapid City emerged with a 5-3 win.

Rapid City gained the winning advantage on a goal by Andrew Smale 8:10 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Konrad Reeder had two goals and one assist to lead Rapid City. Reeder scored the first of his two goals at 6:59 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Rapid City. Dominic DAmour picked up the assist. Reeder's next tally made the score 2-1 Rapid City with 9:19 left in the second period. Rapid City had gotten the advantage when Wichita's Justin Sawyer was sent off for roughing. Jesse Schultz provided the assist.

Rapid City's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Wichita power plays. Rapid City's defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 17 shots between them.

Rapid City additionally got points from Les Reaney, who also registered one goal and two assists. Scott Wray also scored for Rapid City. In addition, Rapid City received assists from Garrett Gruenke, Shawn Limpright, Dave Grimson, and Michael Couch, who each chipped in one.

By firing 25 shots on goal, the Thunder exceeded the 21.2 shots they average per game this year.

Wichita was helped by Brett Hemingway, who grabbed one goal. Hemingway scored 5:36 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Matt Summers picked up the assist. Wichita also got a goal from Kevin Seibel as well. More assists for Wichita came via Thomas Beauregard, who had two and Francis Trudel and Matt Robinson, who contributed one a piece.

Tim Boron rejected 22 shots on goal for Rapid City. Rapid City incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Adam Russo recorded 25 saves for the Thunder. Wichita incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
