Missouri hangs on, beats Wichita 2-1Intrust Bank Arena Sun, Feb 26, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Kris Hogg scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Missouri Mavericks held off the challenges of the Wichita Thunder in a tough 2-1 win. Hogg provided Missouri with the game-winning tally when he scored 8:30 into the the first period. Randy McNaught picked up the assist.The Mavericks allowed the opposing goaltender to relax, getting only 14 shots on goal to force 12 saves. The shot total fell below Missouri's season average of 26 shots per game. The Mavericks managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Missouri wound up below its season average of 17 penalty minutes per game. Missouri got a goal from Brandon Smith as well. In addition, Missouri received assists from Patrick Schafer and David Simoes, who contributed one each. Wichita could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Thunder put an average of three pucks into the net per game. Wichita relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Justin Sawyer, Kevin Seibel and Aaron Davis took 11 of the team's 19 shots. The defense for the Thunder played an important role offensively, racking up nine shots on goal. Wichita was led by Matt Robinson, who scored the team's only goal. Robinson scored on the power play 57 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Missouri. Thomas Beauregard assisted on the tally. The Mavericks registered zero goals on zero power play opportunities. The Thunder ended with no penalties and went 1-for-1 on the power play. |
