Tulsa holds on for 2-1 win against Texas

The Texas Brahmas tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Tulsa Oilers would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 2-1.

Tulsa took a 2-0 lead during the third period, only to have Texas storm back on a TJ Fox goal 9:29 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Oilers were led by goalie Steve Christie, who finished with 29 saves while allowing one goal. Christie certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.09 entering the contest.

Tulsa excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The leading offender was Marty Standish, who totaled four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Oilers relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Dylan Clarke, Michel Beausoleil and Standish took 13 of the team's 21 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Tulsa was helped by Gio Flamminio, who had one goal. Flamminio scored 4:54 into the third period to make the score Tulsa. Beausoleil assisted on the tally. Tyler Fleck also scored for Tulsa. In addition, Tulsa received assists from Gerome Giudice, who had one.

The Brahmas put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Oilers to score on any of their six power plays. With 30 shots on target during the contest, Texas exceeded the 24 shots it averages per game this year.

More assists for Texas came via Chad Woollard and Adam Hogg, who contributed one each.

Tulsa incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Mark Guggenberger turned away 19 pucks between the pipes for the Brahmas. Texas incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
