Arizona wins tough contest against Laredo, 5-3

The Arizona Sundogs and the Laredo Bucks were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Arizona made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Kevin Petovello's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

The Sundogs got the win behind a great game by Craig Macdonald, who had two goals and one assist. Macdonald scored the first of his two goals short handed at 4:32 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Laredo. Arizona found itself down a man on Nathan ONabigon's slashing. Macdonald's next tally short handed made the score 5-3 Arizona with one second1 seconds left in the third period. Jean-Philipp Chabot assisted on the tally.

The Sundogs surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Arizona averages 2.8 goals per contest. With 56 shots on target during the contest, the Sundogs exceeded the 30.1 shots they average per game this year.

Arizona additionally got points from Mike Gurtler, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Arizona received assists from Kyle Hood and Tyler Butler, who each chipped in one.

Laredo was helped by Matt Boyd, who had one goal. Boyd scored 3:51 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Laredo. David Inman picked up the assist. Laredo also got a goal from Rusty Masters as well. Other players who recorded assists for Laredo were Matt R Pierce, A.J. Hau, and Matt Hanson, who contributed one a piece.

Scott Reid rejected 26 shots on goal for Arizona. The Sundogs incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Torrie Jung recorded 51 saves for the Bucks. Laredo incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
