Allen holds on for 3-2 win against Quad City

The Quad City Mallards tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Allen Americans held on for a 3-2 victory.

Allen made the score 3-1 on a goal by Spencer Asuchak at 3:32 in the third period, and Quad City got as close as 3-2 when Matt Boyd scored 4:20 into the third period.

The win by the Americans clinched the best of seven series at 4-3.

Allen was sparked by Asuchak, who racked up one goal.

The Americans stifled the Mallards' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Allen kept Quad City's goalie busy throughout the game, and Thomas Heemskerk made 37 saves on 40 shots.

Others who scored for Allen included Jonathon Zion and Jonathan Lessard, who each put in one. In addition, Allen received assists from Tyler Ludwig, Greger Hanson, Anthony Maiani, and Alex Lavoie, who each chipped in one.

The Americans were unable to stop the Mallards from sending pucks towards the net, and Quad City eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

The Mallards were led by Jim McKenzie, who registered one goal and one assist. McKenzie scored 14:20 into the first period to make the score 1-1. More assists for Quad City came via Nick Grasso, who had one.

Bryan Pitton made 30 saves for Allen on 32 shots. The Americans incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Quad City incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
