Brampton vanquishes Rapid City in shootout, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Scott Howes scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Brampton Beast picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (1-0 SO) win over Rapid City.

The shootout featured 26 attempts between both teams.

Brampton overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Beast trailed 2-0 after a goal by Rapid City's Scott Brannon at 3:58 in the first period. Brampton tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Andrew Fournier at 7:31 in the third period.

By firing 38 shots on goal, the Beast exceeded the 23.2 shots they average per game this year.

Brampton was helped by Jason Pitton, who grabbed one goal. Pitton scored 1:18 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Rapid City. Matt Caruana picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Brampton were Tylor Michel, who had one.

Rapid City put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Beast to score on any of their four power plays. Rapid City's offense rang up 31 shots on Brampton's net.

Jared Brown also scored for Rapid City. In addition, Rapid City received assists from Scott Wray and Kyle Stroh, who contributed one each.

Kristofer Westblom rejected 29 shots on goal for the Beast. Brampton ended with 24 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors. Tim Boron recorded 35 saves for Rapid City. Rapid City totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 0-for-1 on the power play.
