Schaafsma's big game bests Wichita in 6-3 Allen win

Jamie Schaafsma had two goals and two assists to lead the Allen Americans to a 6-3 victory over the Wichita Thunder.

Schaafsma scored at 13:19 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Allen and again while on the power play 17:58 into the first to make the score 2-0 Allen.

Allen's goal total was higher than its season average. The Americans have scored at the pace of 3.8 goals per game during the current campaign. The 33 shots that Allen put on net surpassed the Americans' average of 25.6 shots per game this season.

Allen additionally got points from Tyler Ludwig, who also registered one goal and two assists, Greger Hanson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Alex Lavoie, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Bruce Graham, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Allen received assists from Brian McMillin and Spencer Asuchak, who each chipped in one.

Wichita kept Allen's goalie busy throughout the game, and Bryan Pitton made 31 saves on 34 shots.

The Thunder were helped by Tomas Klempa, who tallied one goal. Klempa scored 17:49 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Allen. RG Flath assisted on the tally. Wichita also had goals scored by Ian Lowe and Matt Robinson, who each put in one. More assists for Wichita came via Jon Booras, who had two and Mike Wilson and Andrew Martens, who contributed one each.

The Americans incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. David Brown rejected 27 shots on goal for Wichita. The Thunder incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
