Denver squeaks by Quad City, 4-2

The Denver Cutthroats and the Quad City Mallards were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Denver made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

The Cutthroats gained the winning advantage on a goal by Vincent Arseneau 4:33 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Denver was sparked by Arseneau, who registered one goal.

The Cutthroats put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Quad City to score on any of its three power plays.

Others who scored for Denver included Troy Schwab, AJ Gale, and Cam Reid, who each put in one. In addition, Denver received assists from Lee Moffie, who had two and Steve Kaunisto, Jason Cohen, Kyle Fletcher, and Garett Bembridge, who contributed one each.

The Mallards were led by Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel, who had one goal and one assist. Dieude-Fauvel scored 3:05 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Jeff Lee picked up the assist. Quad City also got a goal from Gergo Nagy as well. More assists for Quad City came via Mike Stinziani and Matt Boyd, who each chipped in one.

John Griggs made 23 saves for Denver on 25 shots. The Cutthroats totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Thomas Heemskerk recorded 20 saves for Quad City. The Mallards ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major.
