Rapid City uses shootout to best Wichita, 4-3 (3-2 SO)

Eric Giosa scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and Rapid City picked up the extra point in a 4-3 (3-2 SO) win over the Wichita Thunder.

The shootout featured 12 attempts between both teams. Wichita got shootout goals from Tomas Klempa and Ian Lowe. Rapid City also got shootout goals from Jesse Schultz and Winston Day Chief.

Rapid City overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Rapid City trailed 3-2 after a power play goal by the Thunder's Andrew Martens at 8:28 in the third period. Rapid City tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Riley Weselowski at 10:24 in the third period.

Wichita's power play was ineffective against Rapid City's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Rapid City's offense was clicking better than usual and put 32 shots on goal during the game, better than the 28.0 shots per game it averages.

Rapid City was led by Giosa, who dished out two assists.

The Thunder got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game. By firing 35 shots on goal, Wichita exceeded the 26.6 shots it averages per game this year.

Others who scored for Wichita included Mike Wilson and Jarkko Leppanen, who scored one goal each. More assists for Wichita came via Jon Booras, who had two and Matt Summers and Klempa, who contributed one each.

Rapid City's Wayne Savage stopped 32 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Rapid City incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. David Brown rejected 28 shots on goal for the Thunder. Wichita incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
