The Denver Cutthroats and the Brampton Beast both failed to score in overtime, but Denver won the game 5-4 (3-2 SO) after Kyle Fletcher's deciding goal in the shootout.

The shootout lasted for 18 attempts between the teams. Brampton got shootout goals from Jason Pitton and Tylor Michel. In addition to the clincher, the Cutthroats got shootout goals from Garett Bembridge and Cam Reid.

Denver saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Cutthroats made the score 4-2 on a goal by Robin Soudek at 17:42 in the second period. The Beast evened things up at 4-4 on a goal by Andrew Fournier at 10:04 in the third period.

Denver was paced by Aaron MacKenzie, who registered one goal. MacKenzie scored short handed 6:21 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Denver. The Cutthroats were on a disadvantage when AJ Gale went off the ice for cross checking. Sean Zimmerman picked up the assist.

Denver's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Brampton power plays. The Cutthroats' offense was clicking better than usual and put 41 shots on goal during the game, better than the 27.3 shots per game they average.

Denver additionally got points from Vincent Arseneau, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Jean-Philipp Chabot also scored for Denver. In addition, Denver received assists from Troy Schwab and Reid, who contributed one a piece.

Denver was unable to stop Brampton from sending pucks towards the net, and the Beast eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Brampton was led by Brett Smith, who finished with two goals and one assist. Smith scored the first of his two goals at 9:29 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Denver. Frank Littlejohn assisted on the tally. Smith's next tally made the score 4-3 Denver with 10:56 left in the third period. Michel provided the assist. Brampton also got points from Fournier, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Littlejohn, who also registered one goal and one assist. The Cutthroats' John Griggs stopped 30 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Denver totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Grant Rollheiser made 36 saves for the Beast on 40 shots. Brampton ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
