John Griggs was superb between the pipes for the Denver Cutthroats, as he did not allow a goal in a 3-0 victory over Rapid City. Denver's penalty kill excelled, as the Cutthroats gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays. Denver stifled Rapid City's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Cutthroats' defense was surprisingly good. Denver allows 3.0 goals per game. By firing 33 shots on goal, the Cutthroats exceeded the 27.1 shots they average per game this year. Denver's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Cutthroats finished with 20 penalty minutes. Denver was helped by AJ Gale, who grabbed one goal. Gale scored 17:10 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Denver. Lee Moffie picked up the assist. Others who scored for Denver included Vincent Arseneau and Daniel Barczuk, who scored one goal each. In addition, Denver received assists from Sean Zimmerman, Troy Schwab, Aaron MacKenzie, and Garett Bembridge, who contributed one a piece. Rapid City forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Rapid City surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. Rapid City excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Rapid City was held below its usual level of production. Rapid City averages 3.3 goals per game. Rapid City put 35 shots on net during the contest, more than the 30.3 it averages per game. Rapid City was led by Anthony Perdicaro, who took five shots. Griggs recorded 35 saves for the Cutthroats. Rapid City's Tim Boron stopped 30 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Rapid City ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kevin Harvey was ejected from the game.
