Arizona's comeback falls short, Allen wins 6-4Allen Event Center Sat, Mar 01, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Arizona Sundogs almost clawed their way back from a four-goal deficit, but the Allen Americans managed to pull out a 6-4 win in the end. Allen led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Americans' Jonathan Lessard's scored at 17:39 in the second period to put Allen up 5-1. Lessard was all over the ice for the Americans, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Lessard scored the first of his two goals at 3:25 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Allen. Alex Lavoie assisted on the tally. Lessard's next tally made the score Allen with 2:21 left in the second period. Greger Hanson provided the assist. The Allen penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled five minors and three majors for 45 minutes in penalty time. The Americans had been averaging 23.0 minutes in penalties per game. Allen found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Americans average 3.7 goals per contest. With 31 shots on target during the contest, Allen exceeded the 22.4 shots it averages per game this year. Allen also got points from Hanson, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Allen also got a goal from Ben Power as well. More assists for Allen came via Spencer Asuchak, who had two and Tyler Ludwig, Brian McMillin, Anthony Maiani, and Bruce Graham, who each chipped in one. Arizona was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game the Sundogs had been spending in the box. Arizona's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Allen power plays. The 34 shots that the Sundogs put on net surpassed Arizona's average of 16.9 shots per game this season. The Sundogs were helped by Alex Tuckerman, who registered one goal and one assist. Tuckerman scored 10:52 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Allen. Johan Ryd picked up the assist. Shawn Limpright also scored for Arizona. Other players who recorded assists for Arizona were Riley Emmerson, Mark Isherwood, Jason Morgan, Kevin Baker, and Alex Velischek, who contributed one a piece. The Americans took out Eric Levine after he had made eight saves and installed Bryan Pitton in goal, where he finished with 22 saves and the win. Allen ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Garrett Klotz was ejected from the game. Chris Rawlings rejected 25 shots on goal for Arizona. The Sundogs registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
