Tulsa holds on for 5-3 win against Arizona

The Tulsa Oilers survived a determined comeback attempt by the Arizona Sundogs on the way to a 5-3 win.

Tulsa made the score 5-1 on a goal by Ryan Menei at 1:48 in the third period, and Arizona got as close as 5-3 when Matt McCready scored 17:33 into the third period.

With 31 shots on target during the contest, the Oilers exceeded the 24.1 shots they average per game this year.

Tulsa was led by Ben Gordon, who registered three goals and two assists. Tulsa additionally got points from Menei, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Adam Pleskach, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Tulsa came via Nathan Lutz, Blair Macaulay, and Craig Cescon, who contributed one a piece.

The Sundogs excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Arizona's offense was helped by the efforts of its defensemen, who managed to put 15 shots on net during the game. The 34 shots that the Sundogs put on net surpassed Arizona's average of 19.5 shots per game this season.

Arizona also had goals scored by Bryan Cameron and Sebastian Geoffrion, who scored one goal each. In addition, Arizona received assists from Michael Couch, who had two and Johan Ryd, Mark Isherwood, Jason Morgan, and Kevin Baker, who each chipped in one.

Shane Madolora recorded 31 saves for the Oilers. Tulsa ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. The Sundogs took out Andrew Engelage after he had made 12 saves and installed Chris Rawlings in goal, where he finished with 14 saves and the loss. Arizona totaled 31 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. The Sundogs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Garrett Clarke was ejected from the game.
