Brampton's Howes deadly on offense in 4-1 win against WichitaPowerade Centre Sun, Feb 16, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Brampton Beast relied on the scoring touch of Scott Howes, who netted two goals, to beat the Wichita Thunder, 4-1. Howes found the back of the net 2:38 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and again while 5:10 into the second to make the score 2-1 Brampton.Brampton's Kristofer Westblom was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 31 saves and let only one puck past him. More assists for Brampton came via Jamie VanderVeeken, who had two and Matt Suderman, Steve Makway, and Josh McQuade, who each chipped in one. Wichita did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Thunder put an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. Wichita relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Jesse Dudas, Ian Lowe and Jason Wilson took 18 of the team's 32 shots. The Thunder's defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 13 shots between them. In addition, Wichita received assists from Andrew Martens and Jon Booras, who contributed one a piece. The Beast totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-2 on the power play. David Brown took the loss and made 17 saves before being replaced by Taylor Nelson who made seven saves.
