Menei nets hat trick, leads Tulsa to 9-4 win over Arizona

A hat trick by Ryan Menei was the highlight in Oilers' 9-4 win against the Arizona Sundogs.

Menei got on the scoresheet 19:42 into the second period. He then added goals at 5:35 into the third and at 15:10 into the third.

The the Tulsa Oilers penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and three majors for 33 minutes in penalty time. Tulsa surpassed its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. The Oilers bested their season scoring average. Tulsa averages 3.5 goals per game. The Oilers relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Todd Robinson, Ben Gordon and Menei took 11 of the team's 21 shots.

Tulsa also got points from Adam Pleskach, who also registered one goal and one assist, Gordon, who also finished with one goal and three assists, Robinson, who also had one goal and one assist, Drew Fisher, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Michel Beausoleil, who also registered one goal and one assist. Matt Ambroz also scored for Tulsa. In addition, Tulsa received assists from Nathan Lutz, Chapen Leblond, Scott Macaulay, Kyle Bochek, Blair Macaulay, and Craig Cescon, who contributed one a piece.

Arizona racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and three majors for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game the Sundogs had been spending in the box. Arizona put 22 shots on net during the contest, more than the 18.1 it averages per game. The Sundogs' defensemen were a huge part of the offense, scoring three goals and taking nine shots.

Arizona was helped by Kevin Baker, who racked up one goal and one assist. Baker scored 5:48 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Matt McCready picked up the assist. Arizona additionally got points from McCready, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Arizona also got a goal from Mark Isherwood as well. More assists for Arizona came via Garrett Clarke, who had two and Johan Ryd, Jason Morgan, and Justin Pender, who each chipped in one.

Shane Madolora recorded 18 saves for Tulsa. The Oilers registered one goal on six power play opportunities. The Sundogs' starting goalie, Chris Rawlings, made 12 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Andrew Engelage, who stopped zero shots. Arizona registered two goals on seven power play opportunities.
