Eric Giosa scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and Rapid City picked up the extra point in a 2-1 (2-1 SO) win over the Denver Cutthroats. The two teams needed nine turns to complete the shootout. Denver got a shootout goal from TJ Fox. Rapid City's other shootout goal was scored by Jesse Schultz.Rapid City came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Rapid City was down 1-0 after a power play goal by the Cutthroats' Jean-Philipp Chabot at 17:45 in the first period. Rapid City knotted things up at 1-1 on a goal by Konrad Reeder at 1:30 in the second period. Rapid City was led by goalie Tim Boron, who finished with 27 saves while allowing one goal. Boron managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.13 prior to the game. The defense for Rapid City played an important role offensively, racking up 17 shots on goal. Rapid City's offense was clicking better than usual and put 37 shots on goal during the game, better than the 31.2 shots per game it averages. In addition, Rapid City received assists from Schultz and Sean Erickson, who each chipped in one. Denver's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Rapid City power plays.
