GAME RECAP

Denver boosted by Patterson's play in net, beats Arizona 4-1

Denver Coliseum    Fri, Dec 13, 2013

Kent Patterson had a standout game with 30 saves, and the Denver Cutthroats beat the Arizona Sundogs 4-1.

Denver's penalty kill excelled, as the Cutthroats gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Denver was paced by TJ Fox, who grabbed one goal. Fox scored short handed 14:34 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Denver. The Cutthroats played down a man on Troy Schwab's roughing. Steve Kaunisto assisted on the tally.

Denver kept Arizona's goalie busy throughout the game, and Chris Rawlings made 29 saves on 33 shots.

Denver also got points from Schwab, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Denver included Jean-Philipp Chabot and Aaron MacKenzie, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Denver were Daniel Barczuk, who had two and Phil Tesoriero, Matt Glasser, and Garrett Bembridge, who contributed one a piece.

The Sundogs' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Denver power plays. The Cutthroats were unable to stop Arizona from sending pucks towards the net, and the Sundogs eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Arizona was led by Travis Ouellette, who scored the team's only goal. Ouellette scored on the power play 17:26 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Denver. An interference penalty on Sean Zimmerman had put the Sundogs on the power play. Paul McIlveen provided the assist.

Denver ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. Arizona ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major.
