Allen boosted by Pitton's play in net, beats Arizona 4-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Bryan Pitton helped the Allen Americans defeat the Arizona Sundogs, 4-1.

Arizona's power play was ineffective against Allen's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Americans were paced by Jonathan Lessard, who had one goal and one assist. Lessard scored on the power play 15:25 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Allen. Allen had gotten the advantage when the Sundogs' Jason Morgan was sent off for slashing. Tyler Ludwig picked up the assist.

The Americans could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 21 minutes in penalties during the game.

Allen also got points from Alex Lavoie, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Allen included Phil Fox and John Snowden, who scored one goal each. In addition, Allen received assists from Spencer Asuchak, who had one.

Arizona's offense was clicking better than usual and put 36 shots on goal during the game, better than the 22.8 shots per game it averages.

The Sundogs were led by Paul McIlveen, who scored the team's only goal. McIlveen scored on the power play 4:43 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Allen. Arizona had taken the advantage when Allen's Darryl Bootland got sent off for tripping. Morgan assisted on the tally.

Bryan Pitton made 35 saves for the Americans on 36 shots. Allen registered two goals on four power play opportunities. The Sundogs' Chris Rawlings stopped 19 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Arizona ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
