Arizona uses shootout to best Quad City, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Jason Morgan scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Arizona Sundogs picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (1-0 SO) win over the Quad City Mallards.

The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams.

Arizona could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 21 minutes in penalties during the game. The 34 shots that the Sundogs put on net surpassed Arizona's average of 23.2 shots per game this season.

The Sundogs were helped by Kevin Baker, who grabbed one goal. Baker scored 2:45 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Arizona. Michael Trebish provided the assist. Johan Ryd also scored for Arizona. Other players who recorded assists for Arizona were Paul McIlveen, who had one.

Quad City excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Mallards relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Thomas Frazee, Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel and Gergo Nagy took 14 of the team's 27 shots.

Quad City was helped by Mike Hellyer, who had one goal. Hellyer scored on the power play 2:33 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Quad City. The Mallards had gotten the advantage when Arizona's Sebastien Geoffrion was sent off for high sticking. Dieude-Fauvel picked up the assist. In addition, Quad City received assists from Mike Stinziani, who had one.

Chris Rawlings rejected 25 shots on goal for the Sundogs. Ty Rimmer recorded 31 saves for Quad City. The Mallards totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play.
