Behind two goals from Jim McKenzie and one goal and one assist from Thomas Frazee, the Quad City Mallards downed the Denver Cutthroats 5-2. McKenzie scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:46 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Quad City. An interference penalty on Nick Schneider had put Quad City on the power play. Mike Stinziani picked up the assist. McKenzie's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Quad City with 4:06 left in the third period. The Mallards had gotten the advantage when Denver's A.J. Gale was sent off for holding. Stinziani assisted on the tally. Frazee scored 1:13 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Quad City. Nicolas Rioux picked up the assist.Quad City's offense rang up 32 shots on the Cutthroats' net. The Mallards' defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 17 shots between them. Quad City additionally got points from Frazee, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Matt Boyd also scored for Quad City. In addition, Quad City received assists from Darren McMillan, Vladimir Nikiforov, Jeff Lee, Mike Hellyer, and Matt Duffy, who contributed one a piece. Quad City was unable to stop Denver from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cutthroats eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. Denver was helped by Garrett Bembridge, who registered two goals. Bembridge scored the first of his two goals at 13:35 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Michael Schumacher assisted on the tally.
