Denver downs Wichita in overtime, 6-5 (OT)

The Denver Cutthroats pulled out a 6-5 (OT) overtime victory over the Wichita Thunder on a clutch goal by A.J. Gale.

Denver came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Cutthroats trailed 4-1 after a power play goal by Wichita's Mike Wilson at 16:02 in the second period. Denver knotted things up at 5-5 on a goal by Matt Robinson at 18:14 in the third period.

With three goals and two assists between them, Robin Soudek and Gale teamed up to power the Cutthroats' offense. Soudek grabbed two goals and one assist and Gale also notched one goal and one assist.

Denver forced the Thunder goalie Taylor Nelson to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Denver also got points from Gale, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Michael Schumacher, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Cam Reid, who also registered one goal and one assist. Denver also got a goal from TJ Fox as well. Other players who recorded assists for Denver were Steve Kaunisto, who had two, Troy Schwab, who had three, and Nick Schneider, Aaron MacKenzie, and Garrett Bembridge, who contributed one a piece.

With 39 shots on target during the contest, Wichita exceeded the 24.8 shots it averages per game this year.

Wichita additionally got points from Nick McParland, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Dustin Donaghy also scored for Wichita. More assists for Wichita came via Jared Walker, who had two and Jon Booras, who had three.

The Cutthroats' Kieran Millan stopped 34 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Denver totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. Taylor Nelson made 29 saves for the Thunder on 35 shots. Wichita totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 2-for-6 on the power play.
