Missouri survives Arizona comeback, wins 3-2

The Missouri Mavericks, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Missouri and clinched a 3-2 victory.

The Mavericks led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Missouri's John-Scott Dickson's scored at 1:55 in the second period to put the Mavericks up 3-0.

Missouri's penalty kill excelled, as the Mavericks gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Missouri forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and two majors for 24 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game the Mavericks had been spending in the box.

Missouri was helped by Colt King, who tallied one goal and one assist. King scored 15:12 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Missouri. Andrew Courtney provided the assist. Missouri also got points from Trevor Kell, who also had one goal and one assist and Dickson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. More assists for Missouri came via Dave Pszenyczny and Kyle Hood, who contributed one a piece.

The Arizona Sundogs stifled the Mavericks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Arizona put 27 shots on net during the contest, more than the 23.4 it averages per game. The Sundogs found themselves short handed often, totaling 23 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays.

Arizona was helped by Sebastien Geoffrion, who grabbed one goal. Geoffrion scored 16:30 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Missouri. Arizona also got a goal from Justin Pender as well. In addition, Arizona received assists from Kevin Baker, who had one.

Shane Owen rejected 25 shots on goal for Missouri. The Sundogs' Andrew Engelage stopped 22 shots out of the 25 that he faced.
