Allen vanquishes Wichita in shootout, 4-3 (2-1 SO)Intrust Bank Arena Sat, Oct 19, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Kale Kerbashian scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Allen Americans picked up the extra point in a 4-3 (2-1 SO) win over the Wichita Thunder. The two teams needed 10 turns to complete the shootout. Wichita's shootout goal was scored by Matt Robinson. Allen also got a shootout goal from John Snowden.The Americans saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Allen made the score 3-0 on a power play goal by Jonathan Lessard at 10:05 in the second period. The Thunder evened things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Tyler Hostetter at 9:29 in the third period. Darryl Bootland had a great game for the Americans, netting two goals. Bootland scored at 8:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Allen and again while on the power play 8:13 into the second to make the score 2-0 Allen. By firing 39 shots on goal, Allen exceeded the 32.7 shots it averages per game this year. More assists for Allen came via Tyler Ludwig, Charles Lachance, Jarret Lukin, Corey Tamblyn, and Ross Rouleau, who contributed one a piece. Wichita had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on 10 chances. The Thunder put 43 shots on net during the contest, more than the 27.2 they average per game. Wichita was helped by Nik Yaremchuk, who racked up one goal. Yaremchuk scored 19:01 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Allen. Jon Booras assisted on the tally. RG Flath also scored for Wichita. In addition, Wichita received assists from Matt Summers, who had two and Jesse Dudas, Ian Lowe, and Andrew Martens, who each chipped in one. The Americans' Bryan Pitton stopped 40 shots out of the 43 that he faced. Allen incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. Torrie Jung made 35 saves for the Thunder on 38 shots. Wichita incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
