Rapid City outlasts Quad City, 6-4i-wireless Center Sat, Oct 19, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, Rapid City escaped with a 6-4 victory over the Quad City Mallards. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Ryan Palmer's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Rapid City got the win with help from a great game by Tristin Llewellyn, who had one goal and two assists. Llewellyn scored 13:42 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Justin Sawyer assisted on the tally. In the losing effort, Quad City was paced by Jim McKenzie, who registered two goals. McKenzie scored the first of his two goals at 5:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Quad City. Matt Duffy picked up the assist. McKenzie's next tally made the score 3-2 Quad City with 4:06 left in the second period. Tyler Yaworski provided the assist. The Rapid City penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and three majors for 27 minutes in penalty time. Rapid City surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. Rapid City put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Mallards to score on any of their four power plays. Rapid City forced Quad City goalie Ty Rimmer to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Rapid City also got points from Jared Brown, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Konrad Reeder, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Eric Giosa also scored for Rapid City. Other players who recorded assists for Rapid City were Jesse Schultz, who had three and Brett Kostolansky and Bob Preece, who each chipped in one. Rapid City was unable to stop the Mallards from sending pucks towards the net, and Quad City eventually piled up 44 shots on goal. The Mallards' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Quad City finished with 23 penalty minutes. Quad City also got a goal from Gabriel Levesque as well. In addition, Quad City received assists from Michael Monfredo, Jeff Lee, Mike Hellyer, and Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel, who contributed one a piece. Tim Boron rejected 40 shots on goal for Rapid City. Rapid City registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Rimmer recorded 29 saves for the Mallards.
