Denver downs Rapid City in overtime, 6-5 (OT)

The Denver Cutthroats pulled out a 6-5 (OT) overtime victory over Rapid City on a clutch goal by A.J. Gale.

Gale was all over the ice for Denver, as he racked up four goals in the win. Gale got on the scoresheet 1:43 into the first period. He then added goals at 6:02 into the second, at 18:56 into the second, and at 1:30 into the fourth.

The Cutthroats racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with five minors and two majors for 20 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 17.0 minutes per game Denver had been spending in the box. The Cutthroats bested their season scoring average. Denver has scored at the pace of 3.1 goals per game during the current campaign. By firing 34 shots on goal, the Cutthroats exceeded the 26.0 shots they average per game this year.

Denver also got a goal from Barry Goers as well. In addition, Denver received assists from Troy Schwab, who had four, Jamie MacQueen and Luke Fulghum, who contributed one a piece, and Joel Chouinard and Brad Smyth, who each chipped in two.

Rapid City was often in penalty trouble, totaling five minors and two majors for 20 minutes in penalty time. Rapid City surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. Rapid City found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Rapid City averages 2.7 goals per game. With 42 shots on target during the contest, Rapid City exceeded the 23.8 shots it averages per game this year.

Rapid City was helped by Scott Brannon, who tallied two goals. Brannon scored the first of his two goals at 13:29 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Justin Faryna provided the assist. Brannon's next tally made the score 4-4 with 14:22 left in the third period. Jared Brown picked up the assist. Rapid City additionally got points from Jordan Behler, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Rusty Masters also scored for Rapid City. More assists for Rapid City came via Kyle Peto, Scott Wray, Jesse Schultz, and Michael Couch, who contributed one a piece.

Kieran Millan recorded 37 saves for Denver. The Cutthroats registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Danny Battochio rejected 28 shots on goal for Rapid City. Rapid City registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
