In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Wichita Thunder escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Tulsa Oilers.

Wichita gained the winning advantage on a goal by Matt Robinson 16:27 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Neil Trimm was all over the ice for the Thunder, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Trimm scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 18:11 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wichita. Nathan Lutz picked up the assist. Trimm's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Tulsa with 46 seconds left in the second period. Ian Lowe assisted on the tally.

Wichita excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Thunder relied heavily on their defensemen to assist their forwards, and the blueliners responded by scoring two goals on 19 shots. Wichita put 43 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26.4 it averages per game.

Wichita additionally got points from Robinson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Wichita also got a goal from Jon Madden as well. More assists for Wichita came via David Inman, who had two and Todd Griffith and Andrew Martens, who contributed one a piece.

Tulsa did not challenge the opposing goaltender, totaling only 13 shots on net to force 10 saves. Team.mascot's final shot tally was well below the team's average of 17.3 pucks on net per game. The Oilers' defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with six shots between them.

Tulsa was led by Ryan Menei, who registered two goals. Menei scored the first of his two goals at 19:40 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Drew Fisher picked up the assist. Menei's next tally made the score 2-1 Tulsa with 9:16 left in the second period. Shane Madolora assisted on the tally. Patrick Schafer also scored for Tulsa. In addition, Tulsa received assists from Drew Akins, Ryan Cramer, and Jason Weeks, who each chipped in one.

The Thunder took out Grant Rollheiser after he had made seven saves and installed Torrie Jung in goal, where he finished with three saves and the win. Wichita totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Madolora rejected 38 shots on goal for the Oilers. Tulsa ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major.
