Behind two goals and one assist from Chad Painchaud and one goal and two assists from Matt Summers, the Wichita Thunder downed the Bloomington Blaze 6-3. Painchaud scored the first of his two goals at 13:43 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Wichita. Summers picked up the assist. Painchaud's next tally made the score 6-3 Wichita with 54 seconds left in the third period. Summers provided the assist. Summers scored 13:26 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wichita. David Inman picked up the assist.Wichita bested its season scoring average. The Thunder have scored at the pace of 3.5 goals per game during the current campaign. Wichita relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Kevin Young, Neil Trimm and Painchaud took 22 of the team's 42 shots. The defense for the Thunder played an important role offensively, racking up 17 shots on goal. Wichita additionally got points from RG Flath, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Summers, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Trimm, who also registered one goal and one assist. Wichita also got a goal from Matt Robinson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wichita were Ian Lowe, Travis Wight, Torrie Jung, and Andrew Martens, who each chipped in one. With 22 shots on target during the contest, Bloomington exceeded the 17.9 shots it averages per game this year. The Blaze struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 26 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays. Bloomington was led by Jon Booras, who racked up two goals. Booras scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 9:25 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Wichita. The Blaze had gained a power play chance when Inman was whistled for tripping. Nicolas Rioux assisted on the tally. Booras' next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Wichita with 8:54 left in the second period. Leland Fidler picked up the assist. Travis Granbois also scored for Bloomington. More assists for Bloomington came via Brett Lutes, Matt Puntureri, and David Gilbert, who contributed one a piece. Jung rejected 19 shots on goal for Wichita. The Thunder ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. Pier-Olivier Pelletier made 36 saves for Bloomington on 41 shots. The Blaze registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For Bloomington, Steve Makway was ejected from the game.
