Missouri survives Denver comeback, wins 6-4

The Denver Cutthroats tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Missouri Mavericks held on for a 6-4 victory.

A goal by Evan Vossen put Missouri up 6-2 in the third period, but Denver pulled to within two on Luke Fulghum's tally 19:40 into the third period.

The Mavericks found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Missouri has scored at the pace of 3.3 goals per game during the current campaign. The Mavericks' offense was clicking better than usual and put 34 shots on goal during the game, better than the 26.7 shots per game they average.

Missouri was led by Andrew Courtney, who had three goals and one assist. Missouri also got a goal from Kenton Miller as well. In addition, Missouri received assists from Kellen Tochkin, who had two, Sebastien Thinel, who had three, and Brandon Smith, Joshua Hepditch, Ryan Jardine, and John-Scott Dickson, who contributed one a piece.

The defensemen of the Cutthroats were also effective in the Mavericks' zone, and came away with two goals. By firing 40 shots on goal, Denver exceeded the 25.6 shots it averages per game this year.

Denver also got points from Joel Chouinard, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Phil Tesoriero also scored for Denver. More assists for Denver came via Troy Schwab and Gabe Gauthier, who each chipped in one and Brad Smyth and Mikael Bedard, who contributed two a piece.

Mike Clemente rejected 36 shots on goal for Missouri. The Mavericks totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Kent Patterson made 28 saves for the Cutthroats on 33 shots. Denver totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
