The Arizona Sundogs survived a determined comeback attempt by the Tulsa Oilers on the way to a 3-2 win.

A goal by Cody Purves put Arizona up 3-1 in the second period, but Tulsa pulled to within one on Jeff Buvinow's tally 16:51 into the third period.

The Sundogs pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 17 penalty minutes.

Arizona's power play was punchless, and failed to score a single goal despite having nine power play opportunities. The Sundogs' offense was clicking better than usual and put 39 shots on goal during the game, better than the 23.3 shots per game they average.

Arizona additionally got points from Chad Nehring, who also registered one goal and one assist. Arizona also got a goal from Jason Morgan as well. More assists for Arizona came via Derek LeBlanc, who had two and Matt McCready, Kevin Petovello, and Mario Larocque, who each chipped in one.

The Oilers were often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. Tulsa had been averaging 14.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Oilers stifled Arizona's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 30 shots that Tulsa put on net surpassed the Oilers' average of 18.6 shots per game this season. Tulsa's defensemen bolstered the Oilers' offensive attack, as they bombarded David Brown with 14 shots.

Tulsa was helped by Gary Steffes, who racked up one goal. Steffes scored on the power play 9:33 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Arizona. The Oilers had gained a power play chance when McCready was whistled for unsportsmanlike conduct. Drew Fisher picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Tulsa were Ryan Menei, Patrick Schafer, and Michel Beausoleil, who contributed one a piece.

Brown rejected 28 shots on goal for the Sundogs. Shane Madolora made 36 saves for Tulsa on 39 shots. The Oilers registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
