GAME RECAP

Allen survives penalties, beats Fort Worth, 3-1

Allen Event Center    Tue, Feb 26, 2013

The Allen Americans, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the Fort Worth Brahmas' power play opportunities and emerged with a 3-1 victory.

Allen was sparked by Garrett Clarke, who registered one goal. Clarke scored 4:37 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Allen. Trevor Ludwig assisted on the tally.

The Americans were below their usual level of shot production, taking 15 shots compared to the 22.9 Allen averages. The Americans struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 26 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays.

Kale Kerbashian also scored for Allen. More assists for Allen came via Tyler Ludwig, Brian McMillin, and Anthony Maiani, who each chipped in one.

Fort Worth forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and two majors for 22 minutes in penalty time. The Brahmas had been averaging 14.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Fort Worth was led by Austin Mayer, who scored the team's only goal. Mayer scored on the power play 17:40 into the second period to make the score 1-1. A slashing penalty on Jim McKenzie had put the Brahmas on the power play. Sy Nutkevitch picked up the assist.

Aaron Dell made 18 saves for Allen on 19 shots. The Americans registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Brad Fogal rejected 12 shots on goal for Fort Worth.
