Quad City uses shootout to best Denver, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

The Quad City Mallards and the Denver Cutthroats both failed to score in overtime, but Quad City won the game 4-3 (2-1 SO) after Anthony Perdicaro's deciding goal in the shootout.

The shootout featured 22 attempts between both teams. Denver's shootout goal was scored by Luke Fulghum. The Mallards also got a shootout goal from Perdicaro.

Quad City overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Mallards trailed 2-0 after a goal by the Cutthroats' Gabe Gauthier at 9:26 in the second period. Quad City tied things up at 3-3 on a short handed goal by Perdicaro at 12:44 in the third period.

The Mallards were sparked by Perdicaro, who racked up one goal.

Quad City's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Denver power plays. The Mallards put 26 shots on net during the contest, more than the 23.5 they average per game.

Quad City was helped by Perdicaro, who grabbed one goal. Quad City also got points from Mickey Lang, who also registered one goal and one assist. Mike Stinziani also scored for Quad City. Other players who recorded assists for Quad City were Matt Duffy and Mike Hellyer, who contributed one a piece.

Denver excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Cutthroats' offense was clicking better than usual and put 28 shots on goal during the game, better than the 17.6 shots per game they average.

Denver also got a goal from Jeff Neitenbach as well. In addition, Denver received assists from Brad Smyth, Fulghum, Mikael Bedard, and Chris Greene, who each chipped in one.

The Mallards' John Murray stopped 25 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Quad City ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. The Mallards ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bob Preece was ejected from the game. Kieran Millan made 22 saves for Denver on 25 shots. The Cutthroats incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
