Sean Erickson scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Tulsa Oilers picked up the extra point in a 2-1 (2-1 SO) win over the Allen Americans. The shootout featured 20 attempts between both teams. Allen got a shootout goal from Kale Kerbashian. In addition to the clincher, Tulsa got a shootout goal from Drew Fisher.The Oilers overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Tulsa was down 1-0 after a power play goal by the Americans' Jamie Schaafsma at 5:08 in the first period. The Oilers tied things up at 1-1 on a goal by Ryan Menei at 11:39 in the first period. Allen was stymied by Tulsa netminder Shane Madolora, who stopped 44 shots during the victory. Madolora managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.12 prior to the game. The Oilers relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Fisher, Ben Gordon and Justin Fox took 21 of the team's 36 shots. The Americans managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Allen finished below its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game. The Americans could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Allen puts an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. The Americans' offense rang up 45 shots on Tulsa's net. In addition, Allen received assists from Anthony Maiani and Adam Pineault, who contributed one a piece. The Oilers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Steve Silverthorn made 34 saves for Allen on 35 shots. The Americans registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
