Jake Hauswirth scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Arizona Sundogs picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (2-0 SO) win over the Denver Cutthroats. The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams. In addition to the clincher, Arizona got a shootout goal from Hauswirth.The Sundogs came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Arizona trailed 2-1 after a goal by Denver's A.J. Gale at 4:55 in the second period. The Sundogs knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Jason Morgan at 19:03 in the third period. Arizona pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes. The Sundogs put 45 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26.2 they average per game. Arizona was helped by Kip Brennan, who had one goal. Brennan scored 9:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Arizona. Morgan assisted on the tally. Arizona also got points from Morgan, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Arizona received assists from Hauswirth and Mario Larocque, who each chipped in one. The Cutthroats excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Denver relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Gale, Troy Schwab and Gabe Gauthier took 14 of the team's 21 shots. More assists for Denver came via Ben Wilson, who had one. Adam Russo made 19 saves for the Sundogs on 21 shots. Kieran Millan rejected 42 shots on goal for the Cutthroats. Denver incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
