Jeff Lee scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and Rapid City picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (4-2 SO) win over the Denver Cutthroats. The shootout featured nine attempts between both teams. Denver got shootout goals from Chris Greene and Troy Schwab. Rapid City's other shootout goals were scored by Jared Brown, Jesse Schultz, and Lee.Rapid City put 39 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26.9 it averages per game. Rapid City was led by Jordan Baker, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Baker scored 12:08 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Rapid City. Kyle Peto picked up the assist. Brown also scored for Rapid City. Other players who recorded assists for Rapid City were Jamie VanderVeeken and Michael Couch, who each chipped in one. The Cutthroats' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Rapid City power plays. With 35 shots on target during the contest, Denver exceeded the 22.7 shots it averages per game this year. Denver additionally got points from Schwab, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Denver came via Brad Smyth, who had two. Danny Battochio recorded 33 saves for Rapid City. Rapid City incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Kent Patterson made 36 saves for Denver on 38 shots. The Cutthroats incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
