The Quad City Mallards, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Quad City and clinched a 5-4 victory.

The Mallards led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Quad City's Obi Aduba's scored at 8:31 in the second period to put the Mallards up 3-0.

Mickey Lang had two goals and one assist to lead Quad City. Lang scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:04 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Quad City. The Mallards had gained a power play chance when Gary Steffes was whistled for hooking. John Murray provided the assist. Lang's next tally on the power play made the score 5-3 Quad City with 16:19 left in the third period. Quad City had gotten the advantage when the Tulsa Oilers' Troy Ofukany was sent off for high sticking. Mike Stinziani picked up the assist.

The Mallards managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Quad City finished below its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. The Mallards' goal total was higher than their season average. Quad City averages 2.7 goals per game. The Mallards took advantage of Tulsa's penalties, tallying two goals off of three power play opportunities. The 38 shots that Quad City put on net surpassed the Mallards' average of 24.9 shots per game this season.

The Oilers relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Steffes, Michel Beausoleil and Ben Gordon took 14 of the team's 24 shots.

Tulsa additionally got points from Ryan Menei, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Mike Ullrich also scored for Tulsa. In addition, Tulsa received assists from Kyle Mariani, who had one.

Quad City's Murray stopped 20 shots out of the 24 that he faced. Dan Bakala made 33 saves for Tulsa on 38 shots. The Oilers incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
