Turnbull's big game bests Arizona in 7-3 Missouri win

The Missouri Mavericks' Podge Turnbull had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing three assists in his team's 7-3 win over the Arizona Sundogs.

Turnbull scored on the power play 16:33 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Missouri. Missouri had taken the advantage when Arizona's Karl Linden got sent off for hooking. Jeff Pierce provided the assist. Turnbull dished an assist on Sebastien Thinel's goal that made the score 2-0 Missouri at 7:37 into the first period. He then added assists on John-Scott Dickson's goal at 19:10 into the first and on Evan Vossen's goal at 14:16 into the second.

The Mavericks' goal total was higher than their season average. Missouri has scored at the pace of 3.6 goals per game during the current campaign. The Mavericks' offense was clicking better than usual and put 32 shots on goal during the game, better than the 23.7 shots per game they average.

Missouri also got points from Brandon Smith, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Kenton Miller, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Thinel, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Missouri also got a goal from Andrew Courtney as well. Other players who recorded assists for Missouri were Blake Forsyth, who had two and Colten Hayes, who had three.

By firing 26 shots on goal, the Sundogs exceeded the 18.6 shots they average per game this year.

Arizona was helped by Chad Nehring, who registered one goal. Nehring scored on the power play 14:47 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Missouri. The Sundogs had gained a power play chance when Smith was whistled for slashing. Derek LeBlanc assisted on the tally. Arizona additionally got points from LeBlanc, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Jason Morgan also scored for Arizona. In addition, Arizona received assists from Derrick Cousens, David Brown, and Mario Larocque, who contributed one a piece.

Mike Clemente took the win and made 17 saves before being replaced by Austin Lee who made six saves. Missouri totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Arizona's Brown stopped 25 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Sundogs totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-1 on the power play.
