The Quad City Mallards tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Missouri Mavericks would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

A goal by John-Scott Dickson put Missouri up 3-1 in the third period, but Quad City pulled to within one on Mike Hellyer's tally 19:03 into the third period.

The Mavericks' penalty kill excelled, as Missouri gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

The Mavericks racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and five majors for 43 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 15.0 minutes per game Missouri had been spending in the box. The Mavericks stifled the Mallards' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Missouri was below its usual level of shot production, taking 18 shots compared to the 24.8 the Mavericks average.

Missouri additionally got points from Podge Turnbull, who also registered one goal and one assist. Missouri also got a goal from Andrew Courtney as well. Other players who recorded assists for Missouri were Brandon Smith, Kenton Miller, and Sebastien Thinel, who each chipped in one.

Quad City forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 11 minors and five majors for 47 minutes in penalty time. The Mallards had been averaging 18.0 minutes in penalties per game. Quad City relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Darren McMillan, Michael Monfredo and Matt Boyd took 12 of the team's 23 shots. The Mallards' offense was helped by the efforts of their defensemen, who managed to put 11 shots on net during the game.

Quad City also got points from Mickey Lang, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Quad City came via Matt Duffy and Jeremy Boyer, who contributed one a piece.

Mike Clemente made 21 saves for Missouri on 23 shots. The Mavericks registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Quad City's Jimmy Spratt stopped 15 shots out of the 18 that he faced.
