Allen erases deficit to stun Arizona, 3-2

The Allen Americans rallied from two goals down to secure a 3-2 win over the Arizona Sundogs.

Allen never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Americans fell behind 2-0 after a power play goal by Arizona's David Schlemko at 1:06 in the second period. Allen tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Trevor Ludwig at 18:59 in the second period. The Americans netted the game winner on the power play at 8:51 in the third period on a goal by Ludwig.

Allen's penalty kill excelled, as the Americans gave up one goal despite allowing 11 power plays.

Allen racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 11 minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The Americans had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Allen was helped by Jamie Schaafsma, who registered one goal and one assist. Allen also got points from Adam Pineault, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Allen received assists from Tyler Ludwig, Anthony Maiani, Mike Montgomery, and Jarret Lukin, who each chipped in one.

The Sundogs forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. Arizona surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. With 42 shots on target during the contest, the Sundogs exceeded the 22.9 shots they average per game this year.

Arizona was helped by Jake Hauswirth, who finished with one goal. Hauswirth scored 3:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Arizona. Adam Smyth assisted on the tally. More assists for Arizona came via Mike Spillane, who had one.

Aaron Dell made 40 saves for the Americans on 42 shots. Allen registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Spillane recorded 25 saves for the Sundogs.
